The Trinity County Fire Safe Council (FSC) seeks to improve cooperation and coordination in all aspects of wildfire management in Trinity County. The Trinity County Fire Safe Council Memorandum of Understanding was signed by all member organizations in 1999 and re-affirmed by signing Amendment 1 in 2003. Members include representatives from local, state and federal land management agencies, non-governmental organizations including the local Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs) and citizens.

The purpose of this special meeting is to receive public comment on the draft permanent regulation that will succeed the Board's adopted emergency regulations for the "State Responsibility Area (SRA) Fire Prevention Benefit Fee."

California's Wildfire Awareness Week (May 6 - May 12) offers the perfect opportunity to educate our community about the benefits of creating defensible space: it's simple and it effectively protects homes and communities from potential wildfires. Linked here is a short "How To" video about creating 100 feet of defensible space around your home. It's a simple, multi-step process that will give everyone the knowledge needed to help safeguard their home. This video stars Fire Safe Council Executive Director Joanne Drummond and Debra Hein, from the Bureau of Land Management. The downloadable video is 37 Mb in Windows media format.

The Lost Summer: Community Experiences of Large Wildfires in Trinity County, California discusses community perspectives on the 2008 fires, including negative effects in the forest, tourism, recreation, and the wine sectors and the local economic benefit from fire suppression contracting. Fire Suppression Costs and Impacts of the 2008 Wildfires in Trinity County, California analyzes the economic impacts of the wildfires using labor market and fire suppression spending data. We found that 40% of total suppression spending on the 2008 wildfires was contracted to businesses in or adjacent to Trinity County; and that employment in several of Trinity County's economic sectors dropped in 2008 during and after the fires.
